Online Access to Collection

UvA/AUAS Students and Staff Members

UvA students and staff members can access databases, e-books and digital journals at the Library also from outside the UvA by logging in with their UvAnetID, on condition that they go down the correct route. This one correct route has the Library website as a starting point, especially these pages:

All links to content, found with one of these starting points, trigger a login screen whenever you are not physically at the UvA.

A connection with UvAvpn is not needed, but in case you currently do have an active vpn connection, the login screen will be bypassed.

Do you encounter any difficulties? Please let us know via our contact page.

For External PhD Students

External PhD students can request the faculty's human resources department to enter their data in SAP as guest external PhD students. An UvAnetID is attached to this status, with the same possibilities as UvA students and staff have.

For Alumni

Alumni of the University of Amsterdam can make use of several freely accessible resources, such as the open version of ERIC, the leading database for education research. ERIC contains over one million references from 1966 to the present, more than 200,000 of which are available in full text. Be sure to also watch the short video (5 min.) about searching in ERIC.

For pensioners

UvA pensioners can apply for an account that gives them access to the library's databases and electronic periodicals at home. To do so, fill in the web form (in Dutch).

Not affiliated to the UvA?

Access to many electronic resources, e.g. articles from e-journals, is only possible within the UvA domain for those who are not affiliated to the UvA. This relates to licence agreements between the UvA and publishers of electronic publications. Consult the sources via the general access PCs in the Library. The general access PCs do not provide access to the Internet.

Need help with searching for literature? Consult our webpage Search the collection or Ask the Library.

And finally, some websites give access to academic open access resources.
