Use UvA CataloguePlus to find articles in e-journals held by the Library. If you know the bibliographic data, you can search by author and words from the title. Advanced search allows for more specific searches, by focusing the search on particular fields, for example the subject field instead of any. Use the filters in the left-hand margin to limit the search results.

Full text

If an article is full-text available online, you will see a clickable  Full Text button. If there is no button, go to the catalogue by clicking  Details > UvA-Linker. 

Subject-specific databases

In UvA CataloguePlus you search (almost) all databases to which the UvA has access in one go. If you are doing a subject search for articles from scientific or scholarly peer-reviewed journals, it may be more efficient to use a single, subject-specific database. Click Databases to find useful databases. Select the relevant Discipline and Type:  Bibliographies.

Not at UvA

WorldCat Discovery is a national database with the tables of contents of journals. If you are looking for an article in a journal not held by the UvA, try this to see if another Dutch library has it. Use the bibliographic data, such as author or words from the title, or the full journal title to find it quickly. A copy of the article may be requested via Interlibrary Loan (ILL).
Note: from January 2015 onwards, tables of contents of journals are no longer updated in PiCarta.

Google Scholar

Google Scholar allows you to search very quickly in a large collection of academic texts. Open the search box and go to Advanced Scholar Search to perform more specific searches.
