    Description

The UvA library holds a lot of material relevant to Cultural Studies which can be found across several locations. Parts of this collection are of such a magnitude that they qualify as research collections. Furthermore, the library offers access to a growing number of e-books, countless full text scientific articles, relevant databases, and electronic journals. The library also still holds a few subscriptions to print journals.

    Focus

Cultural Studies examines art and culture in their social and historical context which means the subjects can be very diverse. A few of the areas that the library has been collecting literature on include: museums, patronage, heritage policy, and cultural institutions. Furthermore, the library collects publications on European cultural heritage and cultural centres, cultural policy, the influence of travelling on the development of European cultural spaces, and on subjects such as places of memory, and culture and violence.

    Electronic sources

The library offers access to electronic sources relevant to Cultural Studies. These include millions of articles, a growing number of e-books, journals, and discipline specific files. The source materials can be found by searching in CataloguePlus, through the Database-selector, or via the tab ‘E-journals’. If an electronic publication is available within the UvA one is usually only a few clicks away from the full text.

    Printed sources in the repository

In order to create space for new acquisitions materials that are used less frequently are moved from the open shelving system to the library’s repository (Book depot, IWO). This applies to older books and older journal issues. These sources can be requested with the use of a valid library card.
