Access to publications via the UvA Library Catalogue has been expanded to include more than 195,000 academic e-books as part of a trial this year. This includes collections, manuals and monographs from publishers Brill (25,000), De Gruyter (130,000), Taylor & Francis (35,000) and SAGE (5,700). All disciplines are represented in the selection, the focus is on the humanities and social sciences. Why is access expanded, and what changes for you?

Unlimited access

More than 195,000 e-books can be consulted and downloaded without restrictions for one year. Also by multiple users at the same time. A link to a publication can be included in a reading list on Canvas. Students, lecturers and researchers can find the material they are looking for more easily and make fewer book purchase suggestions.

Why this trial?

Access to the complete collection of e-books from selected publishers is provided for one year (from September 2023 to September 2024) for a fee. Taylor & Francis only provides access to their recent e-books, published between 2017 and 2024. By analyzing user statistics, the Library gains more insight into the e-books that are in demand. After a year, an assessment is made to determine which books have been consulted the most. These are then added to the collection.

Inclusive collection

The Library still orders books from small publishers. This concerns, for example, hardcopy books from publishers who do not have the resources to publish e-books. Researchers and lecturers can continue to contact the Library for the acquisition of publications that are important to the collection.
