The goal is to facilitate hybrid working and studying
29 October 2021
The Library is working to create the greatest possible diversity of study places, from public to private, for groups and individuals, aimed at meeting the needs of students at a specific time: providing silent study places for concentrated working when required, at other times working together and being able to talk, or taking part in an online lecture or a Zoom meeting with fellow students.
Pioneering
The brand new video call booths have been specially developed by the Library. Call centres and the UvA Talen formed the inspiration for designing the first prototypes, aimed at developing a simple, flexible and sustainable construction that provides acoustic insulation for students to prevent noise nuisance in the room.
Sustainability
The video call booths comprise three panels made of PET felt that can be slid together to form a booth without needing any screws or metal parts. The PET felt is made from recycled PET bottles and is commonly used as a soundproofing material.
Tests
The video call booths can be found at the following locations: Twenty-two at REC-H, second floor, room H2.01; fourteen at University Library Singel on the first floor - right-hand side of the Service Desk- and four more, at Amsterdam Science Park.
