Event details of Advancing Diamond Open Access at the UvA
Date
1 December 2026
Time
13:45 -17:00

Diamond Open Access (DOA) is an equitable scholarly publishing model that makes research free to read and free to publish. It is led by scholars, supported by shared infrastructures and open licensing. DOA initiatives play an important role in the transition to a sustainable, equitable system of academic open access publishing. The UvA Open Science Programme supports this publishing model with a fund (Diamond Open Access Fund) since 2020.

But what opportunities and challenges does one meet when running a non-profit open access initiative? What initiatives or examples can we learn from? This unique event brings together editorial teams of Diamond Open Access initiatives at the UvA as well as researchers who are interested, involved in or committed to this scholarly publishing model.

Hosted by the University Library, this event explores experiences, best practices and the latest developments in Diamond Open Access publishing, with presentations by Rebeca Fernández Rodríguez (European Review of Latin American and Caribbean Studies), Chiara Livio (Expertise Centre Diamond Open Access) and Wim Pouw (Free your Knowledge).
