Law Library (REC A)

Study spaces for Law School students and staff: Monday to Thursday from 09:00 - 18:00; Friday from 09:00 - 17:00.

Access to the Law Library

From 1 October to 1 July, between 9:00 and 17:00, access to the study room and collection of the Law Library is limited to Amsterdam Law School students (including PPLE) and Amsterdam Law School staff members.

All other library users have access in the evenings on Monday through Thursday from 17:00 - 18:00 during this period. The library desk is accessible during the day. Read more about the services offered to library users not affiliated to the Amsterdam Law School.

In the summer, from 1 July to 1 October, the entire Law Library is accessible to all library users.

Current opening hours

For Amsterdam Law School students and staff:
Monday - Thursday: 9:00-18:00
Friday: 9:00-17:00
An activated UvA student ID card or staff card is needed to get access to the study room and collection during the day.

For other UvA students and UvA staff and external users:
Library desk area (collect requests, return books, information):
Monday - Thursday: 9:00-18:00
Friday: 9:00-17:00

Monday - Thursday: 17:00-18:00

  • Services for library users not affiliated to the Amsterdam Law School

    The following services are available to all library users during the opening hours of the Law Library:

    • 38 study places
    • collect requested (Law) Library materials
    • return borrowed materials
    • borrow compulsory reading material
    • copy, print, scan and computer facilities
    • assistance from the Library desk

    The entire Library can be accessed by all users from Monday through Thursday after 17:00. On Friday, the Law Library closes at 17:00.

  • Study places

    The Law Library has a total of 139 study places, divided over the study room and the library desk area.

    Study room
    Between 9:00 and 17:00, these study places are only accessible to Amsterdam Law School students and staff:

    • 20 study places with PC: these are only available for UvA student and employees (log in with UvAnetID);
    • 77 study places without PC: these desks have power sockets for laptops and other devices.

    Library desk area
    These study places are available for all library users during the opening hours of the Law Library:

    • 4 study places with PC: these are only available for UvA student and employees (log in with UvAnetID);
    • 34 study places without PC: these desks have power sockets for laptops and other devices;
    • 3 15-minute-PCs: only available for UvA student and employees (log in with UvAnetID);
    • 4 public access PCs: these computers are available for all visitors, also for visitors not affiliated to the UvA. These PCs can be used to consult all e-journals and databases without logging in.
  • Printing, copying and scanning

    There are two multifunctional devices available in the library that are all suitable for printing, copying and scanning. A valid student ID card, staff ID card or library card is needed to use these facilities.

    Printing and copying

    Printing and copying is possible in sizes A4 and A3 and both in colour as well as black and white. Prints and copies in black and white cost €0.05 per page for A4 and €0.10 for A3. Prints and copies in colour are €0.15 per page for A4 and €0.30 for A3.

    Scanning

    Scans can be sent by email or saved to a memory stick (also for sale at the library desk). Scanning is free of charge.
