eXtreme Citizen Science Hub Amsterdam

The eXtreme Citizen Science Hub Amsterdam was founded by de Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, Universiteit van Amsterdam, Hogeschool van Amsterdam, Amsterdam UMC, Openbare Bibliotheek Amsterdam, Waag Futurelab en de Gemeente Amsterdam.

The hub focuses on strengthening citizen science in Amsterdam, with special attention to sustainable and inclusive cities, health and wellbeing, and democratic and accessible technologies. By connecting local initiatives, knowledge institutions and policy, the hub works towards the structural embedding of citizen science in the city.

Kick-off programme on 15 June 2026

During the official kick-off in Amsterdam, the eXtreme Citizen Science Hub will be formally launched. Visitors will get a glimpse into ongoing and future initiatives, opportunities to meet researchers and partners, and space to share their ideas.

  • 13:00–14:00 – Walk-in and welcome lunch
  • 14:00–15:30 – Short pitches 
  • 15:30–16:30 – Networking and poster sessions

Afterwards, you are welcome to join the OSCAwards ceremony of the Open Science Community Amsterdam, taking place in the Surgical Theatre of the Library between 17:00 and 19:00. Please register separately for this event via the link below.
