How to find maps?

UvA map collection

The Allard Pierson section of the University Library has an extensive collection of individual maps and atlases. The majority of this material can be found via CataloguePlus. A number of maps is available online, in the Image Database: Maps and Atlases. A small part of the maps has been made available through a chip system in the Map Room in Allard Pierson.

Searching the UvA catalogue for maps

Select Advanced search in UvA CataloguePlus, enter your search terms and select Material Type: Maps. If you are looking for historical maps, for example from the 19th century, enter a Start date and End date. You can also search in the Basic Search and filter your results by Material Type (maps, period, etcetera). If you are looking for books with many (images of) cards, choose for the Basic Search, combine the search term cards with a different search term, and choose UvA books +.
