The decision to end the subscription is based on three factors: the contract is expiring, the renewal costs are high, and the number of active users is relatively limited. RefWorks users with an active account have already been notified by email about the end of the subscription. 

Zotero and Mendeley offer similar functionalities to RefWorks. Zotero is free, user-friendly, and already widely used within the UvA community.
