LAB42 is the new hub for talent development in the field of Digital Innovation and AI in Science Park. Here, the Library has realized 225 new study places responding to the different needs of students.
On each floor you will also find collaboration tables with mobile whiteboards. Always close to plants and coffee. Copyright: BCA

First three floors

The new study spaces are spread over the first three floors of the building. Immediately upon entering, students can take a seat in the atrium of the building, where various seating areas have been made to drink coffee and chat with fellow students. There are also tables and benches for group work when in the open space. The atrium has a lot of greenery and natural light. From the atrium students have a view of many different study places on the other floors.

The sound of Silence

Places for concentrated work are located on the outer shell of the building, in larger quiet spaces, with a view of the campus. There is room for concentrated work on all three floors; but the higher students go in the building, the greater the supply of these types of study spots.

About the design

What is striking is that LAB42 has a very colorful and light interior. This is the work of the architectural firm Studio Groen+Schild. Students contributed ideas about layout and furniture. As a result, every study place has a socket, there are comfortable chairs and no chairs without backs”, explains Marloes van Wagtendonk, project manager for Innovative Librarian Learning Spaces within the Library.

 Work in progress

The last pieces of furniture will be placed in the coming weeks. There will be more sockets in the tables and the furniture will be replaced: “What is there now will be largely replaced, so the best is yet to come”, promises Marloes.

Science Park

With the realization of Library Learning Space LAB42, the Library offers approximately 725 study places spread over Science Park. In addition, students can use the Library, the collaboration and project rooms; the extra study places in lecture halls (Reservations can be made via Mapiq) and the catering facilities throughout the campus.
