From Tuesday 14 November to Friday 17 November, the Library in collaboration with the Vrije Universiteit (VU) will be hosting a four-day course for researchers and master's students from UvA and VU. The course aims to provide a foundational understanding of programming with Python, Unix Shell, and Git.

The course design is based on The Carpentries; a worldwide organization of researchers, programmers and knowledge workers who teach their colleagues data and software skills in a low threshold way. 

The course will cover the following topics: 

  • Programming with Python

  • Unix Shell 

  • GitHub 

No prior knowledge is required. Participants will receive links to download Open Source software before the start of the workshop. The course instruction and materials are in English.

Upon successful completion, participants will be awarded a SURF Edubadge, a digital certificate and proof of attendance that can be shared on your LinkedIn or CV.

The workshop is offered at no cost. Please note that lunch is not included, so bring your own lunch. We will take care of coffee and tea.
