The three faculties on the Roeterseiland Campus – Economics & Business, the Amsterdam Law School and Social & Behavioural Sciences – will literally be in the spotlight during the Amsterdam Light Festival. Ten different light columns will be set up on the campus with messages like ‘Justice for All’, ‘Behaviour, Exploring the Mind’ and ‘Inclusive, Be Yourself’.

For the first time ever, the route of the Amsterdam Light Festival – whose theme this year is ‘Disrupt!’ – will include the Roeterseiland Campus. ‘A great opportunity to welcome the festival visitors to the University of Amsterdam (UvA) and the social sciences faculties’, says Larissa Kolstein, Director of Communications at the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences. ‘The light columns will allow visitors to learn about who we are: a lively international hub of knowledge and innovation that is engaged with society and contributes to the development of solutions to contemporary issues.’
The theme ‘Disrupt!’ ties in with this perfectly, according to Kolstein. ‘Artists are not the only ones who play an important role by depicting, reflecting on and criticising disruptions; the UvA and our social sciences faculties do that as well.’

There will also be two works of light art on display around the campus: one between the REC-M and REC-E buildings and one on Plantage Muidergracht near building REC-J/K. The Amsterdam Light Festival will be held from 28 November through 19 January and is expected to attract around 400,000 visitors.
