The Diversity Document adopted by the Executive Board on 28 May 2019 is now final. The representative advisory bodies (CSR and COR) have approved the proposed decision to appoint an ombudsperson, which gives the Diversity Document its finalised status.

The UvA wants to ensure an inclusive learning and work environment that enables all students and staff to feel at home and increases the quality of our teaching, our research and our social impact. The Diversity Document provides a framework for diversity and inclusion at the UvA and will be used as  a starting point for policymaking and policy implementation in the field of diversity and inclusion within the faculties and shared service units.

Establishing a UvA-wide Diversity Document

Over the past few months, the Executive Board has discussed the UvA's Diversity Document with the academic community in various ways. The Board discussed it with the University Forum and the Senate. It was also made available to students and staff for comment on the online platform The Executive Board would like to thank everyone who responded for sharing their perspectives and contributing to setting up the Diversity Document. The responses to the consultation were incorporated into a document which was submitted to the Central Works Council and the Central Student Council.


In the context of diversity and inclusiveness and, related to this, a safe social environment, there is a need for an independent ombudsperson. The decision has been made to appoint an independent ombudsperson, as described in the Diversity Document. More information will follow about the ombudsperson’s starting date.
