Exactly six years after the first pile was driven into the ground, the moment has arrived: the University of Amsterdam’s new University Library will open on September 1st. We warmly welcome students, lecturers, and researchers to come study, conduct research, and connect with one another.

The construction process was not without its challenges. The design plans date back to 2013, and demolition and asbestos removal began in 2018. This was followed by a complex construction project that faced multiple delays. But now that the building is complete, those setbacks are quickly fading from memory. We’re proud of the result. Located in the heart of the University Quarter—where the UvA has its roots— you’ll now find a modern library that reflects the rich history of both Amsterdam and the university.
