With a valid card the PCH is accessible for UvA students and staff, HvA students and staff and for registered borrowers. Read more about the access policy.
Study Spaces
- Library Learning Spaces: 80 study spaces, of which 20 with PC (ground floor).
- More than 300 study spaces (1st and 2nd floor).
- Collaboration rooms (can be reserved on site).
Service & Collection

You can go to the library desk on the 1st floor for support and several facilities.
- Collecting and returning books and other materials.
- Support in finding academic information and research data.
- Borrowing laptops (Chromebooks). Go to student.uva.nl for more information about borrowing laptops.
- Borrowing headphones (UvA only).
- Printing, copying and scanning. Go to student.uva.nl for more information about printing, copying and scanning.
Other facilities in the building
- Canteen (3rd floor).
- Recharge point (3rd floor). Go to student.uva.nl for more information about charging and paying with your student card.
On the 1st and 2nd floors you will find current collections in the areas of Arabic and Middle Eastern studies, (Eastern) European studies, History, Literature, Linguistics and a number of languages (Dutch, German, English, French, Spanish, Italian, Hebrew, New Greek, Scandinavian and Slavic languages). The other humanities collections are located at the University Library Singel.
Accessibility
The Library Learning Spaces are located on the ground floor. The P.C. Hoofthuis Library is located on the 1st and 2nd floor of the building. The entrance to the library is on the 1st floor. To visit the 1st floor, you need a lift key. This is available at the reception desk.
