Dr I.J.B.F. Adan (1962) has been named Professor of Stochastic Operations Research & Management in the Faculty of Economics and Business at the University of Amsterdam (UvA).

Ivo Adan conducts research into both exact and approximative analysis of stochastic models (probability models). His research will primarily focus on multi-dimensional Markov processes, queueing models and stochastic fluid flow models. Adan is interested in and motivated by the many applications of the models in logistics and production and communications systems. He also recently studied network models for the performance analysis of automated distribution centres and examined logistical problems in health care. Adan intends to continue this research in the future and include other fields, such as stochastic models for road traffic.

Since 1991 Adan has worked at the Eindhoven University of Technology, first as assistant professor and, since 2000, as associate professor. From August 2001 until July 2002, he was a visiting professor at the University of North Carolina. Adan has published extensively in various international journals, such as Queueing Systems, Stochastic Models, European Journal of Operational Research and Computers & Industrial Engineering. He is also a member of the editorial committees of Statistica Neerlandica, Queueing Systems, Asia Pacific Journal of Operational Research and others. As scientific adviser to the Queueing and Performance Analysis programme, Adan is affiliated with the European research institute EURANDOM.
