Dr M.S. Merry (1968) has been appointed Professor of the Philosophy of Education, with special emphasis on the Foundations and History of Education Sciences, in the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences at the University of Amsterdam (UvA).

Dr M.S. Merry (1968) has been appointed Professor of the Philosophy of Education, with special emphasis on the Foundations and History of Education Sciences, in the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences at the University of Amsterdam (UvA).

Michael Merry's research interests include parental motivation for school selection, school choice schemes and school regulations. Recent publications of his examine a variety of topics, including religious school funding, patriotism, giftedness and identity formation. Merry has expertise in ethnic and religious minority education in Western societies, and is the author of Culture, Identity and Islamic Schooling: a philosophical approach (Palgrave, 2007).

Since 2005 Merry served as Visiting Assistant Professor in Education Studies at Beloit College (Wisconsin, US). Other previous appointments include a position as Adjunct Instructor at the Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee (Wisconsin, US).
