Dr S.M. Bögels has been appointed professor of Studies of Special Education in the Family and at School; in particular integrative child welfare, in the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences.

Dr S.M. Bögels (b. 1960) has been appointed professor of Studies of Special Education in the Family and at School (Orthopedagogiek); in particular integrative child welfare, in the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences of the Universiteit van Amsterdam.

Susan Bögels studied Clinical Psychology in Groningen and was aftwerwards attached to the Universiteit Maastricht since 1986. She obtained her PhD degree there in Educational Development and Research and was appointed senior university lecturer in Medical, Clinical and Experimental Psychology in 2000. She has furthermore always been working as behaviour therapist at the Mental Health Centre (RIAGG) in Maastricht. Bögels received a Vidi-subsidy from NWO in 2005 for her research The role of the father in childhood social anxiety.

Within the framework of this chair, Bögels will be carrying out research on inter-generational transmission of psychopathology, in particular of anxiety disorders, from infant age onwards. Her research will focus on prevention and treatment of psychopathology in children as well.
