Like last year, there are two Dutch universities in the top 100, the University of Amsterdam and TU Delft (TUD). The TUD is ranked 57^th in the world.

The top university in the world is the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), who have occupied this spot for the last 9 years. In second and third place are also two US universities: Stanford University is in second place and Harvard University is in third place.

Methodology

The QS World University Rankings are compiled based on six criteria: academic reputation (40%), employer reputation (10%), citations per faculty (20%), student to faculty ration (20%), international faculty (5%) and international students (5%).

Rankings by subject

In March, QS published their 2020 World Rankings by Subject. In this ranking, the UvA was listed as number one in the world for Communication Science and Media Studies, in addition to top 100 rankings for 27 other subject areas.
