As announced in the letter to residents (Buurtbericht) of 31 October, a application has been submitted for an integrated environmental permit for the felling of trees on the Roeterseiland Campus.
The design company Inside Outside has redesigned the outside area at the campus. The design includes a large number of new trees. In order to plant these trees, 47 of the existing trees will have to be removed. A total of 54 new trees will be planted to replace them.
This is partly to do with the design, but there are also other reasons for felling the trees. Some of the trees that will be felled are diseased, and would not survive for much longer anyway. Other trees need to be removed because they block the new access routes for the emergency services, for example.
