Work on the future Faculty of Law building at Roetersstraat 15 on the Roeterseiland Campus is to resume shortly. The new contractor will be announced at the end of this month. The renovation is scheduled for completion by the summer of 2017, after which the relocation of the Faculty of Law can start.
The exterior of the building was completed last summer. Then the work was called to a halt while the relevant parties (faculties, Facility Services and Finance & Control) investigated whether a more efficient layout of the building would be possible, in order to reduce the Faculty's accommodation costs. This cooperation between the various parties proved to be fruitful and, based on the new proposals, the Executive Board has given the go-ahead for the work to resume.
The new contractor will be using the coming time to explore the building and produce a plan for carrying out the interior work. According to the existing schedule, the work should commence in June 2016 and the contractor should be finished in the summer of 2017. At the start of the new academic year, in August 2017, the entrance hall, bicycle park, car park, study spaces and teaching rooms on the first floor will be taken into use. After this, work will commence on the Faculty of Law office spaces. We are in discussion with the Faculty of Law to determine the best time for them to move in to their new accommodation.
