Area Manager Anne van den Eijnden

For the last three years, Carin has been ‘the face' of the UvA and the first point of contact concerning the development of the Roeterseiland Campus. The Area Manager is the person who examines the projects through the eyes of the affected parties (local residents, students, staff, businesses and institutions), who looks at the renovation work and ensures attention is paid to the effects of the work. Carin: ‘In part due to the perseverance of the local residents, a great deal of attention has been paid to ensuring that the building work is neighbour-friendly. There is also an awareness that this needs to continue once the buildings have been taken into daily use; the local residents have every right to be proud of this achievement. It was not always easy, but for me as area manager, this sort of result gives me a great deal of satisfaction.’

Special dynamism

Anne van den Eijnden has been working for Bureau Nieuwbouw of the AUAS as Area Manager for the Amstel Campus since March 2012. The HvA's new city campus on Wibautstraat is located just a stone's throw away from Roeterseiland. Anne: ‘I'm very familiar with the neighbourhood and have got to know every facet of the area. I shall be working for both campuses. Two extensive building projects in the centre of the city bring a special dynamism to the area. Everyone has their own opinion of the projects, and that's what makes this job so interesting.’

The Area Manager works with all the affected parties to ensure the campus remains accessible, liveable and safe during the building work. She ensures that all stakeholders (students, staff, local residents, businesses, municipal authorities, etc.), are informed about any work in good time; she involves them in the developments and provides a listening ear for the local area.
