Last week, the last part of the foundations in the Nieuwe Achtergracht canal was demolished. Now, around 70 concrete piles that supported the foundations need to be removed, along with a number of concrete slabs.
The piles are located in the canal bed and will be crushed using a large bolt cutter. We expect all the piles to have been removed by the end of this week. As soon as this work is complete, the concrete slabs preventing the sheet pile driving, will be removed from the canal bed. The contractor will use a special drill, rather like a giant apple corer, to break up the concrete.
This work will not cause any noise nuisance. However, there will be some noise from the crane motors and from transporting the rubble.
