The machinery and floating platforms that were used to install the sheet piling in Nieuwe Achtergracht are being removed. A number of obstructions on the bottom of the canal are preventing the contractor from being able to drive the 17 metre long sheet piling into place. The work was called to a halt last week.
Consultations are taking place with the contractor and the city authorities about an alternative approach to the work. It is not yet clear if this will affect the planning.
The sheet piling is needed to reinforce the canalside so that the new bridge and steps can be built. The sheet piling on the south side of Nieuwe Achtergracht was installed without any problems.
