Over the past few months, the various groups involved have been working on fleshing out two possible scenarios for the design of the City Centre Campus. The City Centre Campus steering committee has decided to limit further development of the scenarios to the location for the University Library.
In early September, the steering committee stated that a decision will need to be made in the near future as to the location for the new University Library (either in the Oudemanhuispoort building or in the Zusterhuis and the Tweede Chirurgische Kliniek at the Binnengasthuis premises). After this decision has been made, the campus layout will be elaborated in greater detail in light of the location of the University Library. In order that a well-considered choice for the location of the University Library can be arrived at, two comparable designs need to be developed. A design for the University Library on the Binnengasthuis premises already exists. Last year, a feasibility study was undertaken for the Oudemanhuispoort building as a potential location. A draft design will be drawn up over the next few weeks based on the results of this study.
As per the current schedule, the two designs will be presented to the academic community in the first quarter of 2017. In various meetings and communications, the information about the two possible locations for the University Library will be disseminated among the academic community so that they will be able to make a well-considered choice in favour of one of them. The Executive Board will make the final decision.
