In early July Amsterdam's municipal council adopted the first revision of the 'Postcode Area 1012' zoning plan and issued an environmental permit for the construction of the new University Library at the Binnengasthuis premises.
Subsequently there was a six-week period in which anyone with objections to the decision could lodge an appeal with the Council of State. The deadline for appeals was at the end of August and one appeal was submitted. The Council of State now has to issue a ruling within no more than six months. The current planning schedule had already taken possible appeals procedures into account, so this will have no impact on the existing schedule.
The UvA is working within the organisation to prepare for consultations with the academic community on the construction of a new University Library. If a positive decision is taken on the construction of a new UB before the end of this year, the current schedule can go ahead as planned, with delivery in 2018. We will continue to post updates on the most recent developments on www.campus.uva.nl.
