Work is currently underway to prepare for renovation and construction work at the new University Library. Destructive testing will have to be conducted at various locations at the former Convent on the Vendelstraat and Second Surgery Clinic on the Nieuwe Doelenstraat in order to further elaborate the technical design of the University Library. These tests will yield further information on the building's structural elements and materials.
In order to accommodate the tests, holes will be drilled in the floors and ceilings so that surveyors can assess the structure of the floor and its underlying supporting structure. This work will be carried out with a power jigsaw, electrical screwdriver and vacuum cleaner.
The carpenter will start work at the Second Surgery Clinic and former Convent on Friday, 4 July. All work in aid of testing at the Convent will take place between 07:00 and 9:00. The tests are expected to last approximately nine weeks. We expect any inconvenience as a result of this work to be minimal or non-existent.
The UvA is working to minimise any inconvenience as a result of the work. Unfortunately, we cannot rule out inconvenience altogether and ask for your understanding.
