The Binnengasthuis premises are where the University of Amsterdam is building the City Centre Campus: the future home base of the Faculty of Humanities and the University Library. Renovations to the future building for Arts and Culture at Turfdraagsterpad 15-17 commenced in May 2014. The design of the building signals a return to the original layout of the building, which dates back to 1877. To this end, all of subsequent additions, both inside and outside, will be removed, and the original façade and structure will be restored. The basic principle of the design is to encourage interaction in a natural way. The new occupants will take up residence in the building just as the 2015 academic year begins.
Demolition work will be completed in November. Next, the builders will start creating the 'new' building. We are keen to show this beautiful historic building and its exciting metamorphosis to everyone interested. To do so, we are offering guided tours of the Turfdraagsterpad building from November 2014 through February 2015. You can sign up here for a guided tour in November. The dates for guided tours in December, January and February will be announced in the month in question under the heading calendar on the main page.
