Construction of the new University Library on the Binnengasthuis site is entering its final phase, known as ‘Plot III’. This part of the construction project consists of finalising the upper part of the University Library, a project that has been assigned to BINX Smartility of Groenlo.

What will they be doing with the upper part?

In general terms, the work will comprise the restoration of all parts of the building visible above ground level and the construction of the new parts of the building: facades and window frames, installations, completion of the interior, the new building on Binnengasthuisstraat and the atrium roof. This assignment comes hot on the heels of the current project to construct new foundations and a basement.

BINX Smartility will be working throughout the summer of 2021, having completed further engineering and preparatory work in the months before.
Completion is scheduled for the end of Q1 2023. We expect that the new library, designed by MVSA and Architectenbureau J. van Stigt, will be opened later that same year, so that students and staff can benefit from its extensive collection and many study places.
