With the commissioning of REC P for post-graduate and PPLE, the UvA is taking a good step towards achieving its ‘Lifelong Learning’ ambitions. The aim is to ensure that contract teaching on the Roeterseiland Campus (REC) takes place at a joint location on the UvA campus The building will become the physical location of the postgraduate programmes for the three faculties on the Roeterseiland Campus. Accommodating the different programmes in a single building will strengthen both the link between the various programmes and their profiling, thus creating a unique synergy.

Emphasis on teaching

The adoption of the Schedule of Requirements for REC P places more emphasis on teaching (70%). The previous request called for one third teaching, one third research and one third valorisation. More teaching in REC P will place greater demands on the ventilation system and in order to make this possible, the installation section must be modified. The total investment amount has increased as a result. The Executive Board has also approved this additional investment for the building.

Planning

This month, the design process for the installation will start and the floor plans will be further elaborated on the basis of the Schedule of Requirements. In early 2021, the focus will be on completing the Provisional Design before launching the contractor selection procedure, which takes about five months. Completion of the building is scheduled for Q1 2023.
