Campaign group WOinActie is organising a ‘Tour of Academics’ during the opening of the academic year on 31 August. WOinActie and their trade union partners want to use the event to draw attention to the large proportion of temporary appointments among academic staff.

To do this they will be organising a bicycle tour between various universities in the Netherlands. The starting point is the Roeterseiland Campus, at 10 a.m., with a group cycling to Utrecht. You can register via: https://www.aob.nl/tour-of-academics/ or just turn up to wave them off.

cover of the pamphlet

40 Propositions on Science

Rens Bod, UvA professor and driving force behind campaign group WOinActie, wrote the pamphlet ‘40 stellingen over de wetenschap’ (40 Propositions on Science) along with his colleagues Ingrid Robeyns (UU) and Remco Breuker (UL). It is a pamphlet with provocative statements about the systems of science and education currently in place, as well as about funding flows in higher education, academic workloads and the business of publication. According to the professors, the system needs to be overhauled. The pamphlet is for sale in bookshops (publisher Boom).
