In mid-June, the University of Amsterdam will begin installing solar panels. The solar panels will be located on the roofs of the buildings housing the Faculty of Science, the Amsterdam University College at the Science Park and the Amsterdam Business School (REC M).
The UvA intends to be generating power from late August when the panels are connected.
In addition to the UvA buildings, the roofs of the Nicolaes Tulphuis and Dr. Meurerhuis at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences will also be fitted with solar panels. A total of 2360 panels will be installed, with an estimated energy return of 600,000 kWh per year, or enough power for approximately 200 households.
The work will be carried out in phases and take all summer to complete. Installation on UvA buildings will begin on the following dates:
20 June – Amsterdam Business School;
27 June – Science Park, buildings E, F and G;
27 July – Science Park, buildings A, B, C and D.
The timetable for Amsterdam University College still needs to be determined.
