The UvA's user agreement for Blackboard is due to expire soon. That means this is the moment to seriously consider what kind of virtual learning environment we need and want for the future. Which is why we are asking you for your ideas and feedback.
The UvA is organising test labs at each of the faculties, which will give lecturers and students the opportunity to try out various learning environments in a realistic setting. For example, lecturers can prepare courses, administer tests or register marks in the DLE, and students can enrol, submit assignments, give feedback on a fellow student's assignments or ask lecturers questions about lectures.
The goal of the test labs is to find out which learning environments users prefer and why. These reasons will then be translated into a list of requirements for the new learning environment, which will be used as selection criteria during the tendering procedure. Only at the end of this procedure will the definitive decision be made. The system that is ultimately selected could be one that was not included in the user studies but received higher scores for the relevant criteria.
It is vital that students and staff members share their ideas about the UvA's new virtual learning environment. So do go along to your faculty's test lab and let us know what you think.
