About access to the Law Library and its services

Law Library is closed

The Law Library is closed as of 18 March. 

Printed materials can be borrowed and returned again

From Monday 25 May 2020, UvA staff and students will again be able to request and borrow printed materials from the Law Library and other UvA libraries via CataloguePlus. The material can be picked up and returned at the UB Singel from Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 16:00.

Limited access collection and reading room in the Law Library

From 1 October to 1 July, between 9:00 and 17:00, access is limited to law students (including PPLE) and Law School staff members with an activated UvA Student ID or an activated Staff ID. During this period, all library users have access in the evenings on Monday through Thursday from 17:00 - 21:00.
In the summer months, from 1 July to 1 October, the entire Law Library is accessible to all library users.

The following services remain available to other users of the library between the hours of 9:00 and 17:00:

  • 38 study places
  • collect requested (Law) Library materials
  • return borrowed materials
  • borrow compulsory reading material
  • copy, print, scan and computer facilities
  • assistance from the Library desk

The entire Library can be accessed by all users from Monday through Thursday after 17:00. On Friday, the Law Library closes at 17:00.

  • Study places

    There are 137 study places available in the Law Library:

    • 24 study places with PC: these are only available for UvA student and employees (log in with UvAnetID);
    • 70 study places without PC: these desks have power sockets for laptops and other devices;
    • 32 study places that are also suitable to collaborate with other students;
    • 10 public access PCs: these computers are available for all visitors, also for visitors not affiliated to the UvA. These PCs can be used to consult all e-journals and databases without logging in.
  • Printing, copying and scanning

    There are two multifunctional devices available in the library that are all suitable for printing, copying and scanning. A valid student card or staff ID card is needed to use these facilities.

    Printing and copying

    Printing and copying is possible in sizes A4 and A3 and both in colour as well as black and white. Prints and copies in black and white cost €0.05 per page for A4 and €0.10 for A3. Prints and copies in colour are €0.15 per page for A4 and €0.30 for A3.


    Scans can be sent by email or saved to a memory stick (also for sale at the library desk). Scanning is free of charge.
