From Tuesday 2 June, UvA students and staff are welcome to study at the University Library Singel again. We will start with a limited amount of 67 study places (including 25 places with a PC). You have to book your study place in advance.

To make studying in the University Library as safe as possible for all of us, we have laid out a number of rules. So please, come prepared and bring your own food and drinks.

We would love to see you again at the Library. Please do keep in mind:

  • Studying from home remains the norm, so only book a study place if it is really necessary.
  • Come alone.
  • Keep your distance at least 1.5 meters, also at the entrance.
  • Stay home if you have symptoms of a cold or the flu.
  • Follow the instructions of the Library staff.

When you enter the building, we will ask you about your health situation, your study place reservation and your student / employee card.

Please note: no reservation = no admission to the Library

Booking a study space

There are two timeslots available for reservation from Monday to Friday:

Timeslot 1   09.00 - 13.00hrs (9am to 1pm)
Timeslot 2   14.00 - 18.30hrs (2pm to 6.30pm)

  • You can book a maximum of one timeslot per week.
  • Please bring your student / employee card with you, and show us your reservation upon entering the Library.
  • You can book a study place the day before, from 09.00 – 23.59hrs (9am to 11.59pm).
  • If you don’t have a reservation, you cannot make use of the study places.

  • Booking a study place via reservation system Mapiq is possible from Monday 1 June at 9 a.m. Until then it is not yet possible to reserve a study place. It is however possible to create an account in Mapiq.

Collecting and returning books

Collecting and returning books is possible on weekdays from 10.00 – 16.00hrs (10am to 4pm). Keep the following in mind:

  • Bring your confirmation e-mail, saying that your book(s) is / are ready for pick up, and your student / employee card.
  • Please leave the Library immediately after collecting and / or returning your books following the designated route. It is not allowed to stay in the building.
  • Have you requested non-circulating items you wish to consult? Go to the information desk on the first floor.

Please note: the UB Singel collection is not accessible for visitors yet, but you can still request books from the collection via the catalogue.
