This February the 10.000th open access article is administered that was published without any additional costs by Dutch researchers in 2019 under the national open access agreements with publishers. Also this year there are again new and extended agreements between university libraries and publishers on open access publishing.

The first Dutch national open access agreement with a publisher was in 2014 with Springer. Now for every new agreement with a publisher, besides reading rights to their journals, also settlement of open access publications for researchers in those journals are part of the agreement. This is why also UvA researcher scan publish today without any additional costs in thousands of journals of more than fifteen academic publishers. The agreements are negotiated by the Association of Universities in the Netherlands (VSNU) in cooperation with the Dutch Consortium of Academic Libraries (UKB).

Besides the national agreements, the Library also has some local discount agreements with publishers.
