Lecturers wishing to offer their students readers will soon have an easy way of doing this within Canvas, the UvA's digital learning environment. The separate input module (invoer- readers.uva.nl) will no longer be required. The new system, known as Leganto, is easier to use and is directly linked to the Library collection

Students will be able to access their readers through their courses in Canvas, where they will also be able to order a paper copy, as in the current system.

Because many lecturers still use Library services for readers (approx. 300 titles per year, around 60,000 copies), it is essential that this service remains in place and that the underlying software is replaced.

Easier to use
Rather than simply replicating the old situation, the Library intends to introduce a new, simpler approach linked to the digital learning environment already familiar to lecturers (Canvas).

Students will be able to access their readers through their courses in Canvas, where they will also be able to order a paper copy, as in the current system.

The new readers service will be ready this spring. The period from April to August will be used for further promotion and to instruct managers and users.

Added functionalities in Canvas
The Library recently made a link between the Canvas digital learning environment and the CatalogusPlus Library catalogue. Thanks to this link, lecturers no longer need to copy information manually from one system and paste it into the other.
