Recently, the Library called on UvA students to come up with inspiring designs for the temporary learning space in the J/K building on the Roeterseiland Campus. The proposals by students Pruthvi Vellanki (Qatar, studying at the Faculty of Economics and Business) and Greeshma Chauhan (India, studying at the Faculty of Humanities Faculty) were the overall winners.

Their designs were chosen for their vibrant colours and their appeal, and for the references to the Library that both contain. Pruthvi’s design, inspired by the work of Jean-Michel Basquiat, is a light-footed take on the ‘stressed-out student’. Greeshma’s work is an interpretation of three elements – water, sunlight and air – that an individual needs to achieve growth. Greeshma and Pruthvi will start painting soon.

Pop-up learning space
Two artistic UvA students will be decorating the white walls of the new pop-up learning space in the J/K building after winning the design competition organised by the Library in early September.

The new learning space, located on the first floor of the J/K building, has seating for 120 students. The entrance to this space is in the canteen, by the coffee machine.
