About the programme

During this lunch lecture, Rogier Kalkers (Head of Provenance Research at Allard Pierson) will guide you through the major provenance research project that the Allard Pierson is conducting between 2023 and 2027. In this period, the provenance history of around 20,000 archaeological objects will be investigated, many of which have little or no provenance information at all.

Rogier Kalkers will show how the museum uses archival research, material analysis, and mapping the networks of dealers and former owners to fill gaps in our knowledge. He will also address recent restitution requests and the role of the Allard Pierson in debates about heritage ownership and the fight against the illegal trade in antiquities.
