From Monday, 14 October to Thursday , 17 October 2024, the Library in collaboration with the Vrije Universiteit will be hosting a four-day course for researchers and master's students from UvA and VU. The course aims to provide a foundational understanding of programming with R, Unix Shell, and Git.

The course material is based on The Carpentries; a global organisation of researchers, programmers, and knowledge workers who provide accessible instruction in data and software skills to their peers.

The course will cover the following topics: 

  • Programming with R 
  • Unix Shell 
  • GitHub 

No prior knowledge is required. Participants will receive links to download Open Source software prior to the start of the workshop. The course instruction and materials are in English.

Upon successful completion, participants will be awarded a SURF Edubadge, a digital certificate and proof of attendance that can be shared on your LinkedIn or CV. 

Workshop details

The workshop is offered free of charge. In case of oversubscription, selection will be based on background and motivation. By October 9, you will receive confirmation if your participation is confirmed.
