The library and the Library Learning Spaces are located on the ground floor, the 1st floor and the 2nd floor of the characteristic P.C. Hoofthuis. Here you can find a place to study with a view of the canal, help with your study or research and a large humanities collection (150,000 volumes).

Access policy

With a valid card the PCH is accessible for UvA students and staff, HvA students and staff and for registered borrowers. Read more about the access policy.

Study Spaces

  • Library Learning Spaces: 80 study spaces, of which 20 with PC (ground floor).
  • More than 300 study spaces (1st and 2nd floor).
  • Collaboration rooms (can be reserved on site).

You can go to the library desk on the 1st floor for support and several facilities.

Other facilities in the building

On the 1st and 2nd floors, you will find current collections in archaeology, history, language and literature, media studies, modern languages, social and political sciences. The collections are arranged according to the Library of Congress Classification system. The other humanities collections are located at the University Library Singel. View the layout of the collection.

Accessibility

The Library Learning Spaces are located on the ground floor. The P.C. Hoofthuis Library is located on the 1st and 2nd floor of the building. The entrance to the library is on the 1st floor. To visit the 1st floor, you need a lift key. This is available at the reception desk.
