How to find publications in foreign libraries
Finding the libraries
WorldCat provides access to the collections of over 10,000 libraries in dozens of countries. It also contains references to websites. Originally, WorldCat is the central catalogue of the American Online Computer Library Center (OCLC). The collections of European libraries have been added to it, among which the Dutch University Libraries, including UvA.
The Karslruher Virtueller Katalog (KVK) gives access to the data of over 500 million books and journals in a number of (national) libraries all over the world. Particularly useful is the option to perform a simultaneous search in both library catalogues and/or online bookshops. The journals database ZDB (Zeitschriftendatenbank) is to be especially recommended for journals.
Libraries.org is a directory in which you can find the websites and online catalogues of libraries worldwide.
Interlibrary loan (ILL)
Books and journal articles which cannot be traced in the Netherlands, may be requested by international ILL via the University Library. We cannot guarantee success, however, for the level of cooperation differs for each country. Books which are not available for loan locally, will naturally be excluded from interlibrary loan, as well.
