Online: Dutch newspapers

LexisNexis Academic 

Dutch newspapers are available via LexisNexis Academic; national newspapers from ca. 1991 and regional ones  from ca. 2002.

LexisNexis Academic is accessible within the UvA domain via CataloguePlus

Historical newspapers: Delpher 

Delpher gives access to Dutch historical texts from the digital collections of academic and heritage institutions and libraries. In Kranten you'll find a selection of national, regional, local and Dutch colonial newspapers from the Dutch East indies, Surinam and the West Indies, from 1618-1995. The interface is in Dutch only.
Delpher is freely available.

Landelijke Kranten Databank Persmuseum 

The Landelijke Kranten Databank (National Newspaper Database) of the Persmuseum (Press Museum) contains information on more than 3,500 Dutch newspapers. Each newspaper entry shows where you may consult it. The interface is in Dutch only.

http://kranten-historisch.startpagina.nl/ gives access to the archives of many regional newspapers.

Online: foreign newspapers

LexisNexis Academic

LexisNexis Academic  also contains 1,300 foreign full-text news resources. Most of them are updated daily and the archive dates back 20 years. This database is available only within the UvA domain.

European Library

Newspapers from 14 European countries from 1800 – 1950 are digitised and fully searchable.

The European Library is freely accessible. 

The New York Times 1851-2010

All issues from 1851-2010 of The New York Times have been digitised and are fully searchable.
This database is available within the UvA domain only.

The Times 1785-1985

The fully digitised and searchable version of the British newspaper The Times is accessible via CataloguePlus. Access to the Times Digital Archive 1785-1985 is for one user at a time only and only available within the UvA domain.

El País (1996-present)

El País is available for max. 10 concurrent users, within the UvA domain only. 

Pravda (1912-present)

Pravda is accessible only within the UvA domain.

Other foreign newspapers

Via the website of the National Library of the Netherlands (KB) the digital archives of some foreign newspapers and magazines are available.

You need a paid membership of the KB to have access. It costs €15 a year, students get a 50% reduction.

Printed Dutch newspapers

Information Centre University Library 

In the Information Centre of the University Library at Singel you can read the issues of the last two weeks of NRC Handelsblad, NRC Next, Het Parool, Trouw, de Volkskrant and Het Financieele Dagblad.

UBA Book depot (IWO)

Older newspapers are stored in the UBA Book depot (IWO), close to the AMC hospital. Because of their large format newspapers must be consulted at the IWO. A copying machine is available.

Microfiches

The UBA Book depot also holds newspapers on microfilm. From NRC Handelsblad, Het Parool, Trouw and de Volkskrant issues from ca. 1982-2008 are available on microfiche. From the Nieuwe Rotterdamsche Courant /NRC Handelsblad there are also microfilms of the years 1844-1981.
Microfiches requested via the catalogue are sent to the Reading Room in Special Collections where they may be consulted and printed.
