The design for the new library’s lecture room is revealed
Lecturers helped shape the design
Lecturers of the Humanities faculty contributed to the design for the new library’s lecture room that is to be built on the Binnengasthuis site.
To accommodate starting class collectively and then breaking up into smaller groups to work, the lecturers stressed the importance of having a wide array of furniture. Therefore, in addition to normal tables, the lecture room will include couches and low tables. The room’s technical amenities will be basic to allow for plenty of wall space for students to present their work such as in poster presentations.
The room will be characterized by the use of wood and the colour blue. Two moveable cabinets will house the screen and the whiteboard. Furthermore, the walls will be fitted with extensions for extra screens if that becomes necessary in the future.
Reserving the lecture room
Lecturers will be able to reserve the room via the library. Of course, It will also be possible to reserve the lecture room for longer periods of time. The lecture room will be easily accessible being located on the ground floor and directly under the historic ‘snijzaal’.
If the lecture room is not reserved for a class, students will be free to use it as a study space.
The new university library will provide a lot of teaching spaces. In addition to the four tutorial rooms, the building will also house the former ‘snijzaal’ and the archive room. The archive room will allow for classes to be taught with the aid of the available collections.
