Brings together five centuries of resources on colonialism and imperialism

3 March 2016

Empire online is a database which brings together digitised documents on colonialism and imperialism, with a focus on the British Empire. Recently, the UvA Library has taken a licence to it.

The material covers a period of five centuries, and contains travel writing, correspondence, memoirs, pamphlets, government documents and images sourced from libraries in Great Britain, the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Empire Online features thematic essays, chronologies and maps, and thus facilitates research into colonial history, politics, culture and society.

Empire Online can be reached via the Database selector or the link below from PCs within the UvA domain, or from outside it by logging in with your UvAnetID.
