The Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) unveiled its new tightened policy on open access.
All results from NWO-funded research for which the calls for proposals were issued after 1 December 2015 must be published via open access. The two options are the gold route (where the publisher publishes the article open access on its website) and the green route (where the researcher places a version of the article in a repository, e.g. UvA-DARE).
Information on the NWO website, which also includes a Q&A section, reveals that researchers who receive NWO funding can continue to publish as normal in the vast majority of academic journals. There are already various gold open access journals and many traditional journals offer possibilities for green open access. "Researchers prefer to place the final version of the article in the repository but if the publisher does not permit this then a post-review, or if needs be a pre-review version, of the article satisfies NWO’s conditions."
